Trip To Cabelas

Today we took a 3 hour tour (really a 6 hour tour of driving plus the time we spent in the store) to go to the closest Cabelas.  The closest Cabelas to us happens to be in PA.  The store itself was was.  The amount of stuffed animals they have posed around the store in the different "Museum" settings was great.  The kids loved it.  The aquarium they have was cool too.  Or so the kids said, I was off looking for a belt and didn't get to see that part of the store.  I left disappointed.  They didn't have any good "gun belts".  They had plenty for hunting or cowboy action shooting.  The bandolier type belts that hold cartridges in loops around the belt.  But I wanted one more for everyday wear for concealed carry.  So my shopping search continues.  I would really like to get a wilderness tactical belt, but in ordering they are very specific that the size must be pretty exact and I'm in the process of lossing weight... or attempting to, so I need one that I can cinch up as needed and I don't know if the wilderness tactical will work for that.  If anyone has any information please let me know.Back to the trip.  The 3 hour car ride went without any issues.  The in-car-DVD-Player is the greatest addition to vehicles in a long time.  The kids watched movies and the world was at peace again. However once at the store the kids went back to picking at each other over every little thing they could.  The in-store experience because of this was not so good. The assortment and selection of just about anything that you could want though was incredible.  I didn't get to look over any of the firearms though.  The crowd there was amazing.  If you think the mall is crowded check out a Cabelas.  The number of people that were packed into this place was simply amazing.  My son and I went to the restroom and I thought I was in the airport with the number of people in the bathroom at one time.I think I'll go back.  Although it is a long drive, but I'm going to take a day off work and go during a weekday next time.  Hopefully there won't be as many people so I can look around more. Really, I've never been in a gun store where you had to take a number before.  To look at a firearm I felt like I was at the DMZ.  Please take a number and wait for it to be called.  However from what I say (at a DISTANCE!!!) the prices looked good.  We left with a new camp kitchen setup, some toys for the kids.  My youngest daughter got a stuffed animal, my son and oldest daughter both got Cabelas brand multi-tools and I grabbed some jerky.  All in all it wasn't too bad, but I was disappointed that I didn't get to get close enough to get anything else.  Maybe next time.  Course I don't need to spend anymore money.  I've already got two guns on lay-away and am writing out a check for my NRA Instructor training course.Yes.  I'm going to become (hopefully) and NRA Instructor and start teaching.  I haven't taught students in many many years and that was teaching computers at a Technical College.  Course from my spelling in some cases it's hard to believe that I was a College Professor.  But that's what a spell checker is for right?  I'll blog more about the NRA training as that gets closer and as it progresses.  I'll take my laptop and give updates from the Hotel.Powered by ScribeFire.
